  Getting in Shape

It’s time to finally commit to your New Year’s resolution to get in shape or to lose those ten extra pounds.  You would think January is the month that people are the most serious about getting in shape and finally starting that diet after the holidays but it’s actually now that most take action.

There’s that common condition that affects so many people called procrastination. While most resolutions to get in shape are made in January, the average person doesn’t begin to take the necessary steps for another 3-4 months.

Now that the weather has warmed up people start to venture out of their winter ‘cocoons’ and become more active. Whether it be yard work, sports or simply walking the dog, find something that you enjoy and do it a few days each week.

‘Getting in shape’ doesn’t mean you have to join a gym, play on a sports team or run a marathon.  Just twenty to thirty minutes of walking on most days of the week may be all you need to begin to feel better both physically and mentally.

A recent study suggests that becoming fit in middle age, even if you haven't previously exercised, appears to reshape the landscape of aging.
